After oil change burning smell
Everytime I change my oil i smell burning oil for the first 100-200 miles. Then it goes away. The only time I smell it is if I stop and walk by the front of the car with the motor off. The location of the oil filter is such that if oil is spilled it gets captured on the inside of the exhaust manifold shield and just puddles there until it gets burned off from the heat of the exhaust manifold. He cleanned it up as best as he could and the smell lasted about 1 hour after. The oil change was fairly expensive, but they top off all my fluids and check alot of things as well as inflate tires. They used 20w Castrol I think. After I received the car back from them, I noticed a burnt rubber kind of smell. If they spilled a little oil while filling it up, as is prone to happen, you will get that smell until it has all burned off. Some Nissans actually have the catalytic converter (a burning hot device) right below the oil filter, so when they remove the filter oil drips on the converter and the driver is virtually guaranteed the burnt oil smell for a few days. In case of oil leakage into the exhaust system will create the smell of burning oil in the car. This will also create a puddle when the car stops, parked at any point. This situation should be corrected immediately to prevent the oil out of the engine. Compared to regular oil, high quality fully synthetic oil gives a burning rubber smell.
